PRODUCTS AFFECTED: Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows NT 4.0, NT 4.0 Terminal Services Edition

Symptoms of the virus: Some customer may not notice any symptoms at all. A typical symptom is the system is rebooting every few minutes without user input.

Symptoms on some Windows 2000 computers:
Shortly after going on-line, a dialog box appears: "sychost.exe has generated errors & will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. an error log has been created."

How to fix this problem:

1. Download the patch for your Operating System

after you click on the download you will be given the window below

click on "Save" to save the file to your Hard drive, we suggest you to save it to your Desktop as in the window below

 

After you downloaded the file, the virus might have been activated and might reboot your computer,
if it does reboot your Computer please wait till you have your computer running again to install it.

The file you downloaded will be available on your desktop if you followed our download instruction to save it to the desktop

2. Double Click on the shortcut at the desktop to start the installation wizard, and click next

3. You need to click on "I Agree" and click on "Next>" to continue

4. After the installation of the patch is finished, you have to restart by clicking on "Finish"

 

NB: This patch installation should have patched all the security holes you have on your computer and fixed your problem.

After installing the patch, run this tool to scan your computer for infected files and fix them. 

A variant of this worm is called W32.Welchia.Worm, to fix it download this patch and install it.

To keep your windows up to date please go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and follow the instruction on the page
